This page will be updated with the latest information, when available, to keep you informed of emergencies responded to by our team. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LAST CALL OUT. 2009 2055 hours 01.12.2009 Request from Police, to assist in search for a missing person in the Colvend area. Portling and Kirkcudbright CRTs, Galloway MRT, Police, SARDA and Rescue 131 (RAF) were all tasked. Various locations within Dalbeattie Forrest near to Colvend were searched with a negative result, the first phase was concluded at 0600 hours. 0800 hours, Moffat MRT, Kirkcudbright and Portling CRTs along with Nith IR were tasked to search during which a body was recovered. ---------- 1230 hours 21.11.2009 Report from Ambulance Service, report of a female with a possible leg injury near to Needles Eye, on the coastal footpath between Douglas Hall and Portling. Portling CRT were tasked and located the casualty, the ambulance staff were uplifted and taken to the locus. Due to the remote location and poor condition of the terrain an RAF Helicopter, Rescue 131 was tasked. The casualty was treated at the scene and then airlifted to DGRI. Annan CRT were tasked to stand by the hospital landing site. Pictures from Solway Press Services (pic) (pic) (pic) ---------- 2230 hours 19.11.2009 Portling, Kirkcudbright and Annan CRTs were tasked to assist with flooding in the area of Dumfries. ---------- 1925 hours 17.10.2009 Portling CRT and Silloth ILB were tasked following a request from the Ambulance Service to extract a female from Southerness beach. The female was recovered by the CRT. ---------- 1645 hours 07.10.2009 Portling CRT were tasked to locate and uplift an expired pyrotechnic which had washed up on Merse Head. ---------- 1640 hours 12.09.2009 Portling CRT were tasked to a report of persons who were in danger of getting cut off by the flooding tide at Sandyhills. On arrival the persons were managing to wade across the channel and were met by the CRT. ---------- 1755 hours 06.09.2009 A 999 call was received by D&G Police reporting three canoeists trapped on an island in the River Dee near to a village called Bridge of Dee, Castle Douglas. Portling Station Officer, Kirkcudbright CRT, Fleet Bay IRB and Police were tasked to the locus. The IRB managed to launch into the river and recover the three males from the island. (pic) ---------- 1950 hours 05.09.2009 Report of an overdue walker on the coastal footpath between Sandyhills and Rockcliff. Portling and Kirkcudbright CRTs along with D&G Police were tasked. The missing person was quickly located by Portling CRT when arriving on scene. ---------- 1650 hours 03.09.2009 A Portling Coastguard Rescue Officer whilst returning from the previous incident was notified by a member of the public that a female having fallen and broken her leg near to Castle Point, Rockcliff. The Portling CRT were called along with an ambulance. The female was treated at the scene before being stretchered to the ambulance and conveyed to DGRI. (pic) 1425 hours 03.09.2009 Report from a member of the public of a possible dead whale near to Rockcliff. Two members of Portling CRT responded and located a dead porpoise. Relevant Authorities notified. ---------- 2040 hours 29.08.2009 Report from Ambulance Service of a female fallen on rocks near Auchenlarie Holiday Park. Kirkcudbright, Isle of Whithorn and Porling CRTs were tasked however the casualty was walking wounded and had been recovered to the Ambulance and taken to DGRI. 1230 hours 29.08.2009 Report received of a 25ft yacht in difficulty west of Robin Rigg Windfarm, possibly south of Ross Isle. Kirkcudbright Lifeboat was tasked along with Kirkcudbright and Portling CRTs. The yacht was located south of Hestan Island and was taken to sheltered water off Almoness Point. With the assistance of Kippford ILB the vessel was then towed into Kippford on the flooding tide. (pic) (pic) ---------- 1645 hours 11.08.2009 Portling CRT were tasked to investigate an item washed up on Southerness Beach. A large 6'x4' anchor handling marker buoy was located near to the lighthouse. Whilst checking the above item, a kite surfer was observed off Mersehead. Due to the state of the tide and weather he was kept under observations. The CRV managed to drive to his location, approx 1 mile off shore and escort him back to Mersehead as his equipment had been damaged. ---------- 1150 hours 05.08.2009 A 999 call was received by Liverpool MRCC from a man who had been out walking with his wife stating that she had twisted her ankle and was unable to walk. They thought they were in the area of Gutcher's Isle, Colvend. Portling CRT were tasked and located the couple. The lady was recovered using the stretcher and conveyed to DGRI. ---------- 1330 hours 11.07.2009 Liverpool MRCC received a 999 cal from two hill walkers reporting a body in a river within Kirkbean Glen near Criffel hill. Portling CRT, Police and Ambulance were tasked and the body was located. Due to the access, Kirkcudbright and Whitehaven CRTs along with both Solway and Mersey Sector Managers attended to assist Portling CRT and the body was recovered using the Rope Rescue Equipment. (Kirkcudbright and Whitehaven CRTs along with the SMs had been re-directed form a RR Assessment). The Operation was concluded at 1930 hours. ---------- 1645 hours 07.07.2009 A 999 call was received by Liverpool MRCC reporting a RHIB aground in the area of the Blackshaw Bank off Carsethorne. Portling CRT and Nith IRB were tasked to the incident. On arrival of the CRT the RHIB was observed, Nith IRB launched from Carsethorne to proceed to the area. It was confirmed that the vessel was a Cockle Survey and not in danger. FAWGI. ---------- 1952 hours 05.07.2009 A 999 call was received by Liverpool MRCC reporting a cliff faller near to Auchenlarie Holiday Park. Kirkcudbright, Isle of Whithorn and Portling CRTs, Police, Ambulance, Mossyard ILB and Rescue 177 were all tasked to the incident. On arrival of the CRTs it was established that there were two persons trapped at the foot of a gully which was about 150 ft in depth. Due to the remote location, the winchman of R177 was the first person to reach the casualties at which time it was established that one (a 19 year old boy) had sustained serious multiple injuries. Three Coastguard Rescue Officers were transferred by Mossyard ILB to assist the winchman. The first casualty was thereafter airlifted to DGRI. The CRTs thereafter managed to recover the second casualty (a 16 year old boy), who was suffering from the effects of the cold using the Rope Rescue Equipment, this presented its own problems due the the remoteness and lack of access. This casualty was recovered and escorted to Ambulance staff for treatment. R177 thereafter returned to the location and recovered the three CROs from the gully. (pic) (pic) (pic) . The Operation was concluded about 2330 hours.
---------- 1130 hours 04.07.2009 A 999 call was received by Liverpool MRCC reporting to vessels between Powfoot and Southerness, one of which was thought to be on fire. Portling CRT and Annan IRT were tasked to vantage points to hold observations on the vessels. It was quickly established there were two trawlers working in the Upper Solway and neither were in any difficulty. FAWGI. ---------- 1445 hours 27.06.2009 A 999 call was received by Liverpool MRCC from a female who stated she had been cut off by the incoming tide. The female did not know where she was other than she had left Sandyhills at lunch time and intended to walk to Rockcliff. Portling CRT and Kippford ILB were tasked to search for the lady. Members of Portling CRT observed the lady on rocks near to Portling and were able to guide the ILB to the location. The lady was brought ashore safely. ---------- 1715 hours 13.06.2009 Report from member of the public of a small sailing vessel which appeared to be in difficulty east of Hestan Island with a small RIB trying to assist. Portling CRT were tasked and established the vessel was a 3m Buzz sailing dinghy with two persons on board, had capsized during a race. The RIB was a rescue boat from the sailing club. FAWGI. ---------- 1745 hours 11.06.2009 Report from member of the public of possible unexploded ordinance near the Merse Head Nature Reserve. Portling CRT and D&G Police were tasked. Item located and found to be a training SAM. Item recovered by CRT. ---------- 2209 hours 30.05.2009 Liverpool MRCC received a report from member of the public of possible unexploded ordinance near the Merse Head Nature Reserve. Portling CRT attended at located the UD and made area secure. Royal Navy Bomb Disposal attended from Faslane and made the UD safe. ---------- 2130 hours 01.05.2009 Portling CRT were tasked to assist Rescue 177 which was landing at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary with a casualty. (pic) ---------- 1530 hours 27.04.2009 Due to a serious technical failure at Liverpool MRCC all communications covering the Irish Sea were lost. Coastguard Rescue Teams including Portling, Kirkcudbright, Isle of Whithorn, Whitehaven, Knott End and Hoylake attended at various vantage points along the coast to monitor radio traffic including the distress channel 16 and also emergency channel 0. The fault was rectified and CRTs were stood down at 1815 hours. ---------- 1600 hours 17.04.2009 Due to a serious technical failure at Liverpool MRCC all communications covering the Irish Sea were lost. Coastguard Rescue Teams including Portling, Kirkcudbright, Maryport, Whitehaven and Knott End attended at various vantage points along the coast to monitor radio traffic including the distress channel 16 and also emergency channel 0. The fault was rectified and CRTs were stood down at 2030 hours. ---------- 1515 hours 08.04.2009 Due to a serious technical failure at Liverpool MRCC all communications covering the Irish Sea were lost. Coastguard Rescue Teams including Portling, Kirkcudbright, Isle of Whithorn, Maryport, Whitehaven, Knott End and Hoylake attended at various vantage points along the coast to monitor radio traffic including the distress channel 16 and also emergency channel 0. The fault was rectified and CRTs were stood down at 2200 hours. ---------- 1230 hours 24.03.2009 Report from Dumfries and Galloway Police of a missing person in the Kirkcudbright area. Kirkcudbright and Portling CRTs, Kirkcudbright Lifeboat, Galloway MRT, SARDA dogs and Police carried out an extensive search for over 6 hours. The casualty was located in an area of woodland near to Gibb Hill, Kirkcudbright by a member of SARDA and was recovered to an ambulance by members of both the MRT and CRTs. (pic) (pic) 1030 hours 24.03.2009 Portling CRT were tasked to escort a family to and from Gutcher's Isle, Colvend. ---------- 1201 hours 22.02.2009 Report received from Ambulance Service of a person fallen off the cliff near to Castle Hill Point, Rockcliff. Two Ambulances, Helimed 5A, Portling and Kirkcudbright CRTs, Solway Sector Manager along with Kippford ILB and Rescue 177 were tasked. On arrival the casualty was found to be a ten year old boy and was within a small cove to the east of Castle Point and appeared to have sustained serious injuries. Due to the inaccessible location, the casualty was treated by Paramedics and Doctors and stabilised before being moved by the CRTs to a more accessible area on the beach. The casualty was then winched into R177 and taken to DGRI for further treatment. (pic) ---------- 0830 hours 30.01.2009 At twenty six minutes past eight this morning Liverpool Coastguard were contacted by workers on the work barge UR101 reporting that the barge anchor cables were breaking in heavy seas. The barge, which is working on the Robin Rigg windfarm in the Solway firth had 42 workers onboard and the barge was secured by four anchors, at various times during the night three anchor cables broke leaving the barge secured by only one anchor. A decision was made to evacuate the barge in worsening weather conditions throughout the night. Initially, thirty three workers were evacuated by the barge tug Kingcraig and two support vessels Voe Jarl and Maggy M. The nine remaining workers this morning made a decision that the situation had worsened and for the safety of life contacted the coastguard for assistance. Workington ALB was tasked and removed a further 3 workers from the UR101. R122 also attended. The weather in the area was 48 knot winds with squally conditions and a 4-5 metre swell. Portling CRT kept observations on the incident from the area of the CRT Station until the tugs were able to secure the barge and tow her clear of the wind farm. ---------- 1100 hours 25.01.2009 Portling CRT, Annan IRT and Nith IR provided safety cover for
the Rabby Burns Homecoming in the Whitesands area of Dumfries.
---------------------- 2008 1115 hours 10.10.2008 Request from Dumfries and Galloway Police to assist as areas were experiencing flooding. Portling and Kirkcudbright CRTs were tasked to check various roads and low level housing in the Laurieston, New Galloway, Dalry and Glenlee areas. The level of Loch Ken, which was causing the most concern was rising. Two persons were rescued from a campervan which became trapped by flood water near Mossdale and a family were evacuated from a house also in that area. Five fishermen were observed on a small spit of land near Glenlochar, members of Portling CRT wearing dry suits were able to wade across and locate them. Due the rising water Rescue 177 was tasked and was able to land near the fishermen and airlift them off. Fleet Bay IRB and Nith IRB were also tasked and launched into Loch Ken and was able to recover their equipment. The CRTs thereafter continued checking various areas before standing down at 1800 hours. (pic) (pic) (pic) ---------- 0900 hours 25.09.2008 Tasking from Dumfries and Galloway Police to search an area of the River Nith near Dumfries. Portling CRT and members of Nith IR carried out a search for 4 hours. Stood down after nothing was found. ---------- 1744 hours 12.09.2008 Portling CRT were tasked to investigate the sighting of a small dinghy which had been located near Glen Isle. The dinghy was located on the western side of Glen Isle, having appeared to have broken from a mooring. The owner was located and the dinghy was recovered and secured. ---------- 1330 hours 06.09.2008 Portling CRV was re-tasked from Mobile Training to assist the Ambulance Service with an injured mountain biker on the 7 Stanes Trail in Dalbeattie Forest. ---------- 1320 hours 20.08.2008 A group of walkers were observed cut off by the flooding tide on Rough Island. They appear well equipped and did not appear in any distress. Observation well carried out, the group were able to walk ashore when the tide level dropped. ---------- 2035 hours 12.08.2008 Report from a member of the public to Liverpool MRCC of two persons in the water near the bombing target off Sandyhills. The informant then noticed that they were in fact in canoes, they then re contacted MRCC to update. The CRT had been paged however were stood down. False alarm with good intent. 0859 hours 12.08.2008 Call from D&G Police to Liverpool MRCC, report of an upturned canoe stuck under trees in the River Urr, north of the Haugh of Urr. On arrival it was identified that the canoe was empty and appears to have been washed down stream. The river at the time was in flood and the canoe was jammed under a fallen tree. The canoe was recovered by the CRT. (pic) (pic) Pictures from Solway Press Services. ---------- 1745 hours 27.07.2008 Portling CRT and Kippford ILB were tasked to five persons cut off by the flooding tide at Sandyhills. Three persons were uplifted by the ILB and two managed to walk to Merse Head where they were uplifted by the CRT. ---------- 0045 hours 24.07.2008 Kirkcudbright and Portling CRTs were tasked to a report of a male person trapped on cliffs near Brighouse Bay. On arrival two cliff technicians were lowered to the casualty. The casualty was assessed and placed in a stretcher before being transferred to Kirkcudbright ILB and taken to the slip way at Brighouse. The casualty was then transferred by ambulance to DGRI. ---------- 1415 hours 23.07.2008 Portling CRT were tasked to a report of a 21ft fishing vessel with a rope caught in its prop near Airds Point, Auchencairn. Once on scene contact was made with the casualty who was able to move under its own power. The CRT kept observations on the vessel until it had made it back to Balcary bay. ---------- 1620 hours 12.07.2008 On the completion of the Rope Rescue Demonstration Portling CRT were tasked to a report of a vessel on fire in Kingham Quay, Dumfries. Annan IRT were also requested to respond. On arrival it was established that an old boat was being cut up for scrap. The hot metal and wood were smouldering. The CRT provided safety cover whilst the D&G Fire Service cooled the vessel. (pic) (pic) (pic) 1405 hours 12.07.2008 Portling and Kirkcudbright CRTs were carrying out a Rope rescue demonstration at Douglas Hall when they were re-tasked by Liverpool MRCC who had received notification of a EPIRB activation in the Upper Solway. The EPIRB was registered to a 15m fishing vessel. Due to the good visibility a large area of the Solway was able to be viewed. Kirkcudbright CRT located a fishing vessel about 2 miles SW of Hestan Island and were able to make contact on Ch 16. The vessal checked and confirmed that its EPIRB had activated by accident. ---------- 0250 hours 01.07.2008 Dumfries and Galloway Police received a 999 call from a taxi driver stating he had dropped a distressed female off in Southerness who had walked onto the beach intimating she was going to cause herself harm. Portling CRT were paged however on arrival at the station it was established that the female had returned to the taxi. The CRT remained on stand by until Police attended and traced the female. ---------- 1530 hours 28.06.2008 The standby/safety vessel Union Sapphire, which is currently working on the Robin Rigg picked up a weak mayday from a 31ft Yacht which had ran aground and was in difficulty in rough seas. The yacht was unsure if its position although thought they were 3.5m south east of Hestan Island. The Mayday was passed to Liverpool MRCC and due to the poor comms Union Sapphire acted as a relay station. Portling CRT and Maryport CRT were tasked to high ground to over look the Solway Firth. Workington ALB and Kippford ILB were launched and requested to proceed to the position given. Once Portling CRT were on scene it was established that Union Sapphire had lost comms with the casualty. Another yacht which was at anchor off Hestan assisted by motoring in a SE direction from Hestan to give the SAR Units a bearing. After sometime of searching the casualty was observed by Portling CRT approximately 3-4m ENE of the Robin Rigg wind farm. Workington ALB and Kippford ILB proceeded at best speed to the casualty. Workington ALB thereafter placed two crew on the casualty and it was established the yacht had sustained rudder damage, the sails were in the water and one of the three crew was suffering the effects of sea sickness. The yacht was taken under tow by Workington ALB however due to the heavy seas the ALB could not make much speed and they were due to arrive in Maryport by 2000 hours. ---------- 1245 hours 12.06.2008 Liverpool MRCC received a report from member of the public of possible unexploded ordinance near the Merse Head Nature Reserve. Portling CRT attended at located the UD and made area secure. Royal Navy Bomb Disposal attended from Faslane and made the UD safe. ---------- 2020 hours 30.05.2008 999 call received by Liverpool MRCC reporting a red flare in the Whiteport area near Almoness Point, Auchencairn. Portling CRT were tasked to investigate. The CRT arrived on Rockcliff to allow observations on the area. It was established that a small pleasure craft had also observed the flare and hand located a broken down wave runner in the area with an adult and two young children on board. The pleasure craft towed the wave runner back to Kippford where they were met by the CRT. ---------- 1807 hours 27.05.2008 999 call received by Liverpool MRCC reporting 3 persons in a sailing dinghy in difficulty and capsizing south of Rough Island, Rockciff. Portling CRT and Kippford ILB were tasked. Kippford ILB located the casualty and recovered the persons from the water, all were suffering the effects of the cold and one had sustained a facial injury. They were landed to the CRT who provided medical assistance until the arrival of Police and Ambulance staff. The ILB thereafter returned to the capsized dinghy in an attempt to salvage it, due to the strong winds and rough seas the ILB returned to shore and uplifted 2 CROs before returning for a second attempt at saving the dinghy. This was unsuccessful and the ILB returned to shore. The three persons rescued were treated at the scene by ambulance staff. (pic) (pic) ---------- 1050 hours 04.05.2008 Report from a member of the public of a male person cut off by the incoming tide at Southerness Point. Silloth ILB, who were on exercise, were tasked along with Portling CRT. On arrival it was established that the male person had made it ashore safely. ---------- 2035 hours 13.04.2008 Report from Dumfries and Galloway Police of a missing person in the Ringford area, near Castle Douglas. Kirkcudbright CRT, Solway Sector Manager, Police, Galloway MRT and Portling CRT attended. Just as SAR teams were being deployed the missing person was located safe and well. All teams were stood down and Portling CRT were back on station at 2200 hours. ---------- 1338 hours 08.04.2008 Liverpool MRCC received a 999 call from a group of 5 children (aged 6-14) that they were lost near caves and being cut off by in coming tide east of Southerness. Portling CRT and Police initially responded. On arrival at Southerness Point it was confirmed that the children had been located by a parent and were safe and well. Details obtained by CRT and then stood down. ---------- 1510 hours 07.04.2008 Report of possible pollution in River Urr, observed by CRT member. Liverpool MRCC and SEPA informed. SEPA carrying out investigation. ---------- 1740 hours 01.03.2008 Request from Dumfries and Galloway Police to search the River Nith south of Dumfries for a missing female. Portling CRT, Annan IRT and Nith IRB responded. Stood down en-route as missing person located. ---------- 1440 hours 26.02.2008 Report from SEPA of a sunken vessel within Kippford leaking diesel. Portling CRT responded and located the 35ft wooden vessel which had failed to float whilst moored on the slipway. It would appear that all diesel has leaked from the vessel, SEPA and Liverpool MRCC updated. ---------- 2050 hours 14.02.2008 Request from Dumfries and Galloway Police to search the River Nith south of Dumfries for a missing person. Portling CRT, Annan IRT, Nith IRB and Moffat MRT were tasked to incident. Whilst the briefing was being delivered the missing person was located by Police within Dumfries. ---------- 1000 hours 19.01.2008 Portling CRT were requested by D&G Police to escort family members to Gutcher's Isle. (ref with call out 20.12.2007). ---------- 0140 hours 14.01.2008 Request from Dumfries and Galloway Police to search the River Nith south of Dumfries for a missing female. Portling CRT, Annan IRT and Nith IRB carried out a search in horrendous conditions with driving rain and a flooding river. After several hours of searching the female was located by Police near New Abbey. ----------
