This page will be updated with the latest information, when available, to keep you informed of emergencies responded to by our team. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LAST CALL OUT. 2008 0250 hours 01.07.2008 Dumfries and Galloway Police received a 999 call from a taxi driver stating he had dropped a distressed female off in Southerness who had walked onto the beach intimating she was going to cause herself harm. Portling CRT were paged however on arrival at the station it was established that the female had returned to the taxi. The CRT remained on stand by until Police attended and traced the female. ---------- 1530 hours 28.06.2008 The standby/safety vessel Union Sapphire, which is currently working on the Robin Rigg picked up a weak mayday from a 31ft Yacht which had ran aground and was in difficulty in rough seas. The yacht was unsure if its position although thought they were 3.5m south east of Hestan Island. The Mayday was passed to Liverpool MRCC and due to the poor comms Union Sapphire acted as a relay station. Portling CRT and Maryport CRT were tasked to high ground to over look the Solway Firth. Workington ALB and Kippford ILB were launched and requested to proceed to the position given. Once Portling CRT were on scene it was established that Union Sapphire had lost comms with the casualty. Another yacht which was at anchor off Hestan assisted by motoring in a SE direction from Hestan to give the SAR Units a bearing. After sometime of searching the casualty was observed by Portling CRT approximately 3-4m ENE of the Robin Rigg wind farm. Workington ALB and Kippford ILB proceeded at best speed to the casualty. Workington ALB thereafter placed two crew on the casualty and it was established the yacht had sustained rudder damage, the sails were in the water and one of the three crew was suffering the effects of sea sickness. The yacht was taken under tow by Workington ALB however due to the heavy seas the ALB could not make much speed and they were due to arrive in Maryport by 2000 hours. ---------- 1245 hours 12.06.2008 Liverpool MRCC received a report from member of the public of possible unexploded ordinance near the Merse Head Nature Reserve. Portling CRT attended at located the UD and made area secure. Royal Navy Bomb Disposal attended from Faslane and made the UD safe. ---------- 2020 hours 30.05.2008 999 call received by Liverpool MRCC reporting a red flare in the Whiteport area near Almoness Point, Auchencairn. Portling CRT were tasked to investigate. The CRT arrived on Rockcliff to allow observations on the area. It was established that a small pleasure craft had also observed the flare and hand located a broken down wave runner in the area with an adult and two young children on board. The pleasure craft towed the wave runner back to Kippford where they were met by the CRT. ---------- 1807 hours 27.05.2008 999 call received by Liverpool MRCC reporting 3 persons in a sailing dinghy in difficulty and capsizing south of Rough Island, Rockciff. Portling CRT and Kippford ILB were tasked. Kippford ILB located the casualty and recovered the persons from the water, all were suffering the effects of the cold and one had sustained a facial injury. They were landed to the CRT who provided medical assistance until the arrival of Police and Ambulance staff. The ILB thereafter returned to the capsized dinghy in an attempt to salvage it, due to the strong winds and rough seas the ILB returned to shore and uplifted 2 CROs before returning for a second attempt at saving the dinghy. This was unsuccessful and the ILB returned to shore. The three persons rescued were treated at the scene by ambulance staff. (pic) (pic) ---------- 1050 hours 04.05.2008 Report from a member of the public of a male person cut off by the incoming tide at Southerness Point. Silloth ILB, who were on exercise, were tasked along with Portling CRT. On arrival it was established that the male person had made it ashore safely. ---------- 2035 hours 13.04.2008 Report from Dumfries and Galloway Police of a missing person in the Ringford area, near Castle Douglas. Kirkcudbright CRT, Solway Sector Manager, Police, Galloway MRT and Portling CRT attended. Just as SAR teams were being deployed the missing person was located safe and well. All teams were stood down and Portling CRT were back on station at 2200 hours. ---------- 1338 hours 08.04.2008 Liverpool MRCC received a 999 call from a group of 5 children (aged 6-14) that they were lost near caves and being cut off by in coming tide east of Southerness. Portling CRT and Police initially responded. On arrival at Southerness Point it was confirmed that the children had been located by a parent and were safe and well. Details obtained by CRT and then stood down. ---------- 1510 hours 07.04.2008 Report of possible pollution in River Urr, observed by CRT member. Liverpool MRCC and SEPA informed. SEPA carrying out investigation. ---------- 1740 hours 01.03.2008 Request from Dumfries and Galloway Police to search the River Nith south of Dumfries for a missing female. Portling CRT, Annan IRT and Nith IRB responded. Stood down en-route as missing person located. ---------- 1440 hours 26.02.2008 Report from SEPA of a sunken vessel within Kippford leaking diesel. Portling CRT responded and located the 35ft wooden vessel which had failed to float whilst moored on the slipway. It would appear that all diesel has leaked from the vessel, SEPA and Liverpool MRCC updated. ---------- 2050 hours 14.02.2008 Request from Dumfries and Galloway Police to search the River Nith south of Dumfries for a missing person. Portling CRT, Annan IRT, Nith IRB and Moffat MRT were tasked to incident. Whilst the briefing was being delivered the missing person was located by Police within Dumfries. ---------- 1000 hours 19.01.2008 Portling CRT were requested by D&G Police to escort family members to Gutcher's Isle. (ref with call out 20.12.2007). ---------- 0140 hours 14.01.2008 Request from Dumfries and Galloway Police to search the River Nith south of Dumfries for a missing female. Portling CRT, Annan IRT and Nith IRB carried out a search in horrendous conditions with driving rain and a flooding river. After several hours of searching the female was located by Police near New Abbey. ---------- 2007 1445 hours 20.12.2007 Request from Dumfries and Galloway Police to recover a body from a cove at Gutcher's Isle nearto Glenstocken, Colvend. Portling CRT, Kirkcudbright CRT and Kippford ILB responded. The CRTs assisted with conveying Police to the locus and escorting them down to the beach. The CRTs then recovered the body up a very steep and slippy path to an RV point. ---------- 1400 hours 09.12.2007 Report of possible unexploded EOD on Sandyhills Bay. Portling CRT responded and three training SAMs located and removed. ---------- 1306 hours 04.11.2007 Report from SFPA Officers of possible unexploded EOD on Southerness Beach. Portling CRT, Police and RAF Bomb Dosposal attended and item was removed. --------- 1900 hours 03.11.2007 Portling CRT requested to attend at the Mersehead Nature Reserve and recover a Maritime Pyrotechnic which had be washed up. ---------- 1530 hours 25.10.2007 999 call received by Liverpool MRCC reporting a RHIB going aground and in difficulty off Rough Island, Kippford. Portling CRT and Kippford ILB were tasked. Kippford ILB managed to get close to the vessel to enable crew to walk to the RHIB. Two crew were taken off and brought to Kippford, however the skipper wished to stay with the RHIB and attempt to refloat her. The ILB returned to station and Portling CRT kept obs on the RHIB. After a period of time, due to changing weather, two ILB crew and two CROs (in drysuits) walked to the vessel and convinced the skipper to leave the RHIB and return ashore. At 2130 hours the ILB launched, refloated the RHIB and towed it back to Kippford. All crews eventually stood down at 2300 hours. (pic) (pic) ---------- 1032 hours 15.10.2007 Request from Dumfries and Galloway Police to assist in a search for a missing person in the New Abbey area near Dumfries. Portling and Kirkcudbright CRTs, Nith IRB along with Moffat MRT, SARDA Units and Police search various locations. After several hours of searching a body was recovered. ---------- 1110 hours 09.10.2007 Report from Dumfries and Galloway Police of a male person in difficulty in an inflatable dinghy off Carsethorn. Portling CRT, Police and Nith IRB responded, linked to previous incidents, person safely ashore an arrival. ---------- 1940 hours 06.10.2007 Report of person in difficulty in an inflatable dinghy off Carsethorn. Portling CRT and Nith IRB responded. Male person was located on the shore, had been attempting to attach a marker buoy to the vessel that sunk previously. All in order. ---------- 1050 hours 04.10.2007 Portling CRT were tasked to locate a vessel that sunk whilst on a mooring off Carsethorn. There were concerns regarding pollution and navigation for other vessels. The approx location on the vessel was established, it was just visible at low water. Details were passed to MRCC. The 38ft wooden vessel sank on Saturday. ---------- 0415 hours 23.09.2007 Report from Dumfries and Galloway Police, person in water, River Nith, Dumfries. Team were paged however were stood down on arrival at station when it was confirmed that the person was recovered safe and well. --------- 0723 hours 28.08.2007 Report from a member of the public, small yacht adrift and unable to confirm if anyone is onboard, off Castle Point, Rockcliff. Portling CRT responded, observations held on the yacht which was not in any distress, appeared to be waiting for flooding tide to enter Kippford. ---------- 2215 hours 27.08.2007 Report from members of Silloth Lifeboat Crew, possible distress flares in the area west of Carsethorn. Portling CRT and Annan IRT responded, area searched with a negative result. ---------- 1735 hours 15.08.2007 Report from a member of the public, a small rowing boat with two POB, drifting out to sea near Castle Point, Rockcliff. Portling CRT and Kippford ILB responded, Portling CRT located the boat about 1 mile south of Castle Point and guided Kippford ILB onto the casualty which was thereafter towed back to Kippford. (pic) ---------- 1915 hours 08.08.2007 Report of a number of children stranded on rocks and cut off by the incoming tide near to Southerness Point. Portling CRT, Silloth and Kippford Lifeboats responded. On arrival it was confirmed that all had made it ashore safely. ---------- 1820 hours 07.08.2007 Report of a person in the water, River Annan, north of Annan. Police, D&G Fire Service and Annan IRT responded, person recovered. ---------- 2010 hours 02.08.2007 Report of a drifting dinghy in the Seafield area of Gretna. Annan IRT responded and located the dinghy which appeared to have broken free from a mooring. FAWGI. --------- 1640 hours 29.07.2007 Report of possible unexploded EOD on Southerness Beach. Portling CRT responded, item located near to caravan park on the beach. Cordon put in place and D&G Police informed. Royal Navy EOD were contacted and requested to attend. Whilst dealing with the above incident Portling CRT were informed of a possible second device. This was located near to the Mersehead Plantation. EOD attended and destroyed both devices. (pic) (pic) (pic) ---------- 1315 hours 28.07.2007 Report of an inflatable dinghy with engine trouble off Southerness Point. Portling CRT and Kippford Lifeboat responded. Dinghy located and towed to shore by lifeboat. ---------- 1420 hours 11.06.2007 Report from member of the public. Suspected Unexploded Ordinance on Southerness beach. Portling CRT and D&G Police attended. Item located and area secured. Photograph obtained using a mobile phone and sent to Liverpool MRSC who then sent it via e-mail to Royal Navy EOD. RN EOD attended, item examined and found to be a 50lb practice bomb from WW2, it was safely destroyed. (pic) (pic) (pic) ---------- 0848 hours 03.06.2007 Request from D&G Police, report of missing woman from the Castle Douglas area. Portling CRT, Kirkcudbright CRT, Galloway MRT, Police and Kirkcudbright Lifeboat all involved in ongoing search of various locations and beauty spots in the Castle Douglas, Balcary, Dalry and Kirkcudbright areas. ---------- 2125 hours 28.05.2007 Whilst Annan IRT were carrying out observations for the previous incident they located a young female on the banks of the River Nith. Female was identified as a missing person from the Dumfries area. Conveyed to DGRI by ambulance. 2015 hours 28.05.2007 Report of three cows stuck in mud between Banks Cottage and Airds Point (near ICI Tanks) on the river Nith. Portling CRT, Annan IRT, Nith IRB Dumfries and Galloway Fire & Rescue Service and local farmer attended. Cattle freed uninjured. (pic) (pic) (pic) (pic) --------- 1820 hours 15.05.2007 Request from D&G Police, report of missing person in the Thornhill area north of Dumfries. Police, Moffat MRT and and underwater search team have been searching an area including the River Nith for several days. Portling CRT, Annan IRT and Nith Rescue commenced a search of the River from Auldgirth heading north. After several hours of searching Nith IRB located and recovered a body. (pic) (pic) ---------- 0600 hours 01.05.2007 Search teams resume major SAR operation in upper Solway Firth for missing boat. The 18ft dory went missing yesterday between Silloth and Maryport with 2 persons on board. The search now involves Portling, Annan, Brough by Sands, Maryport and Whitehaven CRTs, Rescue Helo R131, Nith IRB, Brough by Sands CG boat, Silloth, Workington, Kirkcudbright and Kippford Lifeboats. As of 1430 hours one body recovered by Workington Lifeboat about 3-4 miles off shore. (pic) (pic) 1650 hours 30.04.2007 Report from Liverpool MRCC, 18ft motor boat reported overdue from Maryport (Cumbria). Workington Lifeboat and ILB, Maryport IRB, Silloth Lifeboat along with Portling, Kirkcudbright, Isle of Whithorn, Annan, Brough by Sands and Maryport CRTs, Rescue 131 (RAF Boulmer) and Police Units all involved in a major search of the upper Solway Firth. As of 2100 hours no trace of the boat was found. All SAR Units stood down as light faded. SAR operation to resume at 0600 hours 01.05.2007. (pic) ---------- 0914 hours 26.04.2007 Report from a member of the public to Liverpool MRCC of a cabin cruiser drifting off Sandyhills Bay. Portling CRT responded, a working trawler was observed, False alarm with good intent. ---------- 1700 hours 23.03.2007 Report of Red Flares in the Annan area. Annan CRT carried out a search, nothing found. Possible yet another hoax. ---------- 0902 hours 16.03.2007 Request from Ambulance Service, report of person in the water at near Solway Fisheries, New Abbey. Portling CRT and Nith Rescue were on route however were stood down after it was confirmed that person had been recovered. ---------- 2000 hours 14.02.2007 Report of Red Distress Flares in the Newbie area of Annan. Annan CRT tasked to search area. Nothing found. ---------- 1805 hours 10.02.2007 Report of two shooters in difficulty in the area of the the mouth of the River Nith. Portling CG, Annan CRT and Nith IRB tasked to search area. Persons recovered by Nith IRB and taken ashore. 1825 hours 10.02.2007 Reports of Red Distress Flares in the Newbie area of Annan.
